How we test & score products

This is my review of Brother SE1900 sewing and embroidery machine.

I am a sewing enthusiast who doesn’t stop on scooping updates in anything sewing related. I own the Brother SE1900 sewing machine and would like to share my thoughts to help you determine if this is the best machine for you.

Brother is a well-respected brand with a long history as a competitive leader in the sewing machine industry (1). It provides wide range of options from mechanical to advanced features like touch screens and programmable settings.

Brother SE1900 sewing and embroidery machine is a worthy investment for versatility because you can sew and embroider in one machine.

This machine is also great for any sewing level since it is easy to use and plenty of online videos are available for this model.

Features Analysis

Easy to Use Touchscreen Display

How many times did we miss and forget to put the presser foot down and sew? It’s a thread disaster, right? This machine tells you to put it down!

You won’t accidentally miss a step on the setup before sewing since the smart display tells you everything.

Auto threader and auto thread cutter

Being an owner of a couple mechanical machines, I was in awe with the auto threader and cutting features of this machine.

At first, it takes time to get used to. You can activate these features on the LCD display, ignoring the fact that I sometimes forget to set them on. You have to set them on every time you turn on the machine. The settings will go back to default when you turn the machine off.

Presser foot knee lifter

This saves your hand another work. If you don’t want to press the button to raise your presser foot, just utilize the knee lifter. How fun is that.

Super quiet machine

Trying the Brother SE1900 after using my Singer all-purpose machine and Janome HD-3000 heavy duty machine is like being hummed to sleep.

Things we wished this machine has:

  1. It only comes with 5×7 embroidery hoop. Would have been great if it comes with a set of other sizes so we don’t have to make additional accessory purchases, given the price of this machine.
  2. Though this machine has a 7-in underarm space, it doesn’t come with an extension arm/table if you are a quilter. Few machines come with this but it’s just a wishful thinking for the price tag. SAWT5 Wide Table fits this model.

Other Notable Considerations

USB flash drive only

If you are used to connecting directly from your phone or PC to other device for file transfer, it is not possible in the machine.

You have to save the embroidery file to a USB flash drive and connect that to the port on the machine.

Not all USB flash drives work on this machine, FAT32 format is recommended.

You can save a total of 1MB on machine’s memory. If you ran out of space, you need to delete some saved files, or save them in the flash drive before deleting them from machine’s memory.

You can retrieve data saved on your flash drive, so utilize it as a storage.

Type of embroidery data

Only .pes, .phc, and .dst can be used in this machine, so take note of this when looking for a design online.

There are so many designs you can purchase at Brother’s website or other sewing communities online.
